EDMONDS — In the case of a disaster, Snohomish County Fire District 1 hopes to give people tools to be prepared.
Fire District 1 is gearing up for ReadyFest, a free open house where fire officials will break down disaster preparedness. Guests can attend hands-on safety training on how to turn off natural gas, water and electricity within their homes, use a fire extinguisher and administer CPR.
In addition, crews will share steps to compile emergency preparedness kits. Guests also can taste samples of dehydrated meals, an option available for their kits. Children are invited to tour the fire engines, play a Wheel of Safety game and learn to put together their own “go bag” that can be stored by their bed.
The open house is set to run from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at Fire Station 17 at 275 Sixth Ave. N, Edmonds.
