EVERETT – A fire in Everett early today destroyed one house and damaged a home next door.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 3000 block of Gedney Street at 4:07 a.m. The garage and back wall of one house was engulfed in flames. The fire was so hot the basement of the adjacent house also had started burning.
Nobody was injured. The first house that burned was a total loss. The other home was spared, but sustained damage in its basement and attic.
Everett police nearby when the fire started might have seen an explosion, said Steve Parker, battalion chief with the Everett Fire Department.
More than 33 firefighters responded to the blaze, and several of them were off-duty, Parker said. There were six engine companies, two ladder trucks, three medic units and an aid car involved. Naval Station Everett and the Marysville Fire Department assisted.
