CAMANO ISLAND — A house fire killed one person and also sent a man to the hospital early Sunday morning, Camano Island Fire and Rescue said.
The fire was reported shortly before 3 a.m. on the 600 block of N. Gladstone Drive, on the northwestern part of Camano Island.
“We had a fully involved residential structure fire,” Assistant Fire Chief Levon Yengoyan said.
Crews worked hard to prevent flames from spreading beyond the two-story house where the fire started, Yengoyan said. A man inside suffered smoke inhalation. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
No details were provided about the person who died. Nobody else was inside.
Fire officials were working with the Island County Sheriff’s Office to determine the cause. Interviews with potential witnesses were just getting underway, sheriff’s office fire investigator Barry Pomeroy said Sunday morning.
Six fire engines, three tender trucks and several other fire department vehicles responded.
