SEATTLE — The Coast Guard says an engine room fire originally reported as uncontrolled aboard a 314-foot fishing vessel off the Washington coast has been extinguished. No injuries were reported among the 120 people aboard the Arctic Storm.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejohn said a sister ship had reached the Arctic Storm about 30 miles off Grays Harbor and planned to pick up some crew members. Other vessels in the area also have evacuated crew members. Littlejohn said the crew will be taken to Westport.
Plans are underway to tow the disabled vessel to Aberdeen. Littlejohn said it has 188,000 gallons of diesel on board and 66,000 pounds of fish. There are no reports of pollution.
Littlejohn says crew members used a chemical firefighting system and sealed the engine room.
The Coast Guard said the ship is owned by Arctic Storm, Inc. A spokeswoman did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
