EVERETT – Firefighters swiftly extinguished a blaze at a used car dealership in north Everett this morning.
Crews from around Everett were called to the scene of the one-alarm blaze at a car dealership in the 2300 block of Broadway. The fire apparently started just before 11 a.m. in a garage on the alley behind the dealership.
Corey Chase was washing cars on the lot when he turned around, saw flames and shouted, “fire!”
Employees on the lot scrambled in the moments before fire crews arrived to move cars out of the fires way, he said.
Flames clawed into the sky about 20 to 25 feet above the garage and a huge plume of black smoke loomed over the citys north end.
Neighbors reported hearing small explosions from inside the garage.
As fire crews battled the blaze, neighbors and bystanders crowded the sidewalks around the block.
The garage was destroyed and the burned out shells of two cars could be seen. Crews were able to stop the blaze from spreading too far into the dealership office, a mobile home, Everett Fire Marshal Warren Burns said.
He said the fire likely caused between $50,000 and $100,000 in damage.
There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.
By 11:30 a.m., fire crews had the fire out. They remained on the scene to prevent flare ups and investigate the fires cause, Burns said.
