Fires continue to burn at parks around the state.
At North Cascades National Park, five lightning-ignited fires are burning. Four fires are in the north unit of the park and the other is in the Flat Creek drainage.
Fire activity has closed entry to the park via Hozomeen. Permits will not be issued for backcountry trips starting in Hozomeen, but the campground will remain open to boat-in or hike-in camping for trips originating from the south. Firefighters are monitoring fires in relation to trails and camps, and the park may close areas if conditions warrant. The Crescent Mountain Fire has closed some trails at Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The entire South Pass, Summit and Boulder Creek trails are closed. Purple Creek Trail is closed from Imus Trail Junction to War Creek Pass, including the Boulder Butte spur. Also closed are Hooter Camp, Rennie Camp, Reynolds hiker and stock camps, Juanita hiker and stock camps, and the Dee Dee Lakes and Triplet Lakes cross-country zones.
The Crescent Mountain fire, caused by lightning on July 29, has grown to about 19,750 acres about 21 miles west of Twisp. On Thursday, a spot fire south of War Creek continued to burn actively in Reynolds Creek, spreading west into the wilderness. Using helicopters, firefighters were able to hold the fire in the area north of Poplar Flat. On Friday, firefighters continued to mop up and secure a fireline along Buttermilk Road, reinforce the contingency line along Slate Creek and Scaffold Ridge, and use aerial resources to slow the fire progress south of War Creek.
