ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Coast Guard says a fishing boat has run aground in the Aleutian Islands off Alaska and is in danger of breaking up, putting its four crew members in danger.
Petty Officer Walter Shinn says the agency took a relayed mayday call early today reporting that the 58-foot Icy Mist was aground on Akutan Island and was taking on water.
The Coast Guard sent a cutter and three rescue helicopters to the area.
Shinn says one helicopter was forced to return because of winds that had gusts reaching 80 mph.
Akutan Island is 766 miles southwest of Anchorage.
