MUKILTEO — Service on the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry route came to a halt during peak travel Monday morning.
The cause was shrimp fishing equipment in ferry pathways, according to Washington State Ferries.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the ferry’s tribal liaison were summoned.
Ferries were docked on both sides of the water for over 90 minutes.
On the Clinton side, cars formed a long line on Highway 525. The delay also affected walk-on passengers.
Holdups due to fishing lines and pots placed in crossing zones happen every year. These can create safety issues and potentially damage the boats.
Ferry service resumed on the route — one of the busiest in the state — around 11 a.m. Monday.
