A high-risk Level 3 sex offender who fled Snohomish County last week was arrested in Spokane on Wednesday, a spokesman from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Spokane police arrested Timothy McCamey, 25, after two residents recognized him from a newspaper story, the spokesman said. The children approached officers working downtown and pointed out McCamey. He was headed into a building that serves meals to transients.
The sheriff’s office sent out a nationwide notice for McCamey July 27. After failing to register as a sex offender, McCamey fled the county, and police didn’t know where he went, but he was believed to be traveling through Spokane to Moscow, Idaho.
A cash reward for information leading to McCamey’s arrest was advertised by Secret Witness, a civilian organization that offers rewards for information that helps solves crimes in Spokane.
Last July, McCamey was found trying to get into the dormitory area of a high school volleyball camp in Montana. A camp chaperone called 911, and McCamey was returned to confinement in Washington state.
