WHIDBEY ISLAND — Fowl fans are invited to flock to Whidbey Island on Saturday for the third annual coop tour.
The Rock’n Doodle 4-H Club is hosting a day of fun dedicated to their feathered friends. Eight poultry keepers from Langley to Oak Harbor will open their farms and back yards to show off their chickens and coops.
Visitors can learn more about raising chickens and get ideas about different kinds of coops, including set-ups that are good for smaller back yards or use recycled materials.
Several sites also feature other barnyard animals, including sheep, geese, ducks, cattle and a miniature fainting goat named Clyde.
Don’t miss the Chicken Olympics complete with amazing animal tricks.
Coupeville is planning to make a flap over the event, declaring the town “Coop-Ville” for the day.
Restaurants will be serving special egg and chicken dishes to celebrate 4-H and the town council’s recent approval of backyard coops within city limits.
The self-guided tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tickets and tour maps are $10 per person or carpool. They can be purchased at Bayview Farm and Garden in Langley, Skagit Farmers Supply in Freeland and Oak Harbor and at the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce.
Proceeds will go toward the 4-H club and improvements at the Island County Fairgrounds.
