ARLINGTON — Officials are warning of potential flooding along the Stillaguamish River this weekend.
The National Weather Service on Friday issued a flood watch for the river, effective Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon.
Heavy rain is expected over the central Cascade Range late Friday night and into Saturday. The rain likely will cause “significant rises on area rivers,” according to the warning.
Most local rivers are expected to rise but not top their banks. However, the Stillaguamish is projected to be near flood stage, with the water at its highest Sunday morning. The warning states any flooding would be minor.
People who live along the Stillaguamish are encouraged to keep an eye on the river and the forecast. If the weather becomes more severe, the watch may be upgraded to a warning. Visit wrh.noaa.gov/sew for updates.
