Food bank collecting school supplies

Sky Valley Food Bank is collecting school supplies and backpacks for its School Days Rule Days program, which aims to serve about 500 Monroe students.

Distribution of school supplies is set to begin Aug. 20.

New backpacks and school supplies or money to purchase these items can be donated to Sky Valley Food Bank, P.O. Box 724, Monroe, WA 98272. Checks should be designated School Days.

Donations also can be made online at www.svfoodbank.org. For information about what’s needed in particular, call 360-794-7959 or e-mail endhunger@svfoodbank.org.

Clothes for Kids needs volunteers, donations

Clothes for Kids is seeking volunteers and donations to help the nonprofit organization provide free clothing to young people from low-income families in the Edmonds School District area.

Volunteers work three to four hours per shift. Work parties for church groups, business colleagues or clubs can be arranged.

Clothes for Kids also needs financial support and donations of new athletic shoes, socks and underwear for school-age children and teens.

Foster kids in county need school supplies

KidsDream of Snohomish County is helping foster children get back to school.

Compass Children’s Clothing Closet, a partnership between Compass Health and KidsDream of Snohomish County, needs donations.

The closet serves Snohomish County foster children, from newborn to age 18. Basic clothing items, such as new socks, underwear, pants, shirts, coats and shoes, as well as school supplies are needed.

Closet officials have set a goal to distribute 400 grade-appropriate filled backpacks.

To volunteer, have a donation picked up or for more information, call 425-356-9679. Donations also may be dropped off at Building 8 of the Everett Compass Health Campus, 4526 Federal Ave.

School supplies at Lake Stevens event

A back-to-school bonanza of donated items for Lake Stevens families in need is planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Lake Stevens Family Center, 1803 123rd Drive NE.

Free supplies and services offered include clothing, backpacks and school supplies. Haircuts will be offered on a limited basis.

Donations by the Kiwanis Club and the Synergy Group helped make the event possible.

Donations of cash or items are still being accepted. Call the center 425-397-7433.

Deaconess program seeks to help students

Donations of new school supplies, backpacks, gift certificates and cash contributions are needed to prepare Everett area children for the upcoming school year.

The School Readiness Program is part of Deaconess Children’s Services. Its goal this year is to supply 150 children with school supplies and a new pair of shoes.

To participate, call the Deaconess office at 425-259-0146 by Aug. 16.

Yourthnet runs back-to-school supply drive

Youthnet, a nonprofit agency serving children and families in northwest Washington, is accepting donations for its annual Back-to-School Supply Drive. Supplies will be used by students in Youthnet programs.

Supplies can be donated by calling 425-258-6153. Cash donations are welcome, and all donations can be designated specifically for children in Snohomish County.
