WENATCHEE — The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has burned 6,500 acres in the Naches Ranger District just north of Highway 12 and Rimrock Lake.
Fire specialist also have burned hundreds of acres about 18 miles north of Ellensburg and four miles southwest of Wenatchee. They planned to burn about 600 acres today seven miles southeast of Twisp.
The Forest Service says the controlled burns reduced vegetation, improving forest health and preventing serious wildfires.
