EVERETT — Police on Thursday morning were looking to arrest an Everett yacht broker.
Detectives visited the business and former home of Ronald J. Sperry, 60, a former vice commodore of the Everett Yacht Club, but were unable to find him, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
Sperry is wanted on an arrest warrant for failing to show up for a Feb. 10 court hearing on a theft charge. Snohomish County prosecutors accused him of floating a bad check for more than $70,000 in 2007.
He was in court Tuesday for a different criminal matter. Sperry was scheduled to be sentenced for first-degree theft and 16 counts of filing a false tax return.
He faces more than four years in prison and owes more than $950,000 to the state for failing to pay sales taxes he collected from customers. Sperry has repaid $3,000 since pleading guilty in November.
The sentencing was rescheduled to allow Sperry to resolve the other theft charge.
Sperry was allowed to leave the courthouse Tuesday despite the warrant.
Now, Sperry should call police or turn himself in, Goetz said.
