Former Ferndale teacher arrested on sex allegation

EVERETT — Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives on Wednesday arrested a former Ferndale High School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.

The 35-year-old Whatcom County resident was arrested without incident and was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on investigation of first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor. He was released after posting $5,000 bail.

The teacher resigned after he was confronted by police and school officials about his alleged sexual relationship with the girl, who was a student in his chemistry class.

Ferndale police began investigating after receiving information from the girl’s mother and school officials. They turned the investigation over to the sheriff’s office after learning that the teacher and the girl allegedly had sexual relations in an Everett-area motel while he was on military reserve duty.

He was airlifted to the Seattle trauma center, where he was in critical condition until Tuesday. He died from injuries suffered in the crash, said Don Halberg, a King County medical examiner’s investigator.

The Sultan woman was treated and released at Providence Everett Medical Center.
