EVERETT – Four Everett City Council members will be honored this week at a National League of Cities conference in Charlotte, N.C., for achieving high levels of municipal service.
City Councilmen Ron Gipson, Arlan Hatloe and Mark Olson will receive platinum certificates, and City Council President Marian Krell will receive a gold certificate.
The award is based on the number of leadership training classes and the amount of public service each person has participated in. The platinum award is the highest certificate available.
“It’s a great honor,” Hatloe said.
Hatloe and Gipson received awards at a National League of Cities conference in March in Washington, D.C., but they will be recognized along with Olson and Krell Dec. 10 at the general session of the Charlotte conference.
Gipson, Hatloe and Olson are among 19 civil servants nationwide to be awarded platinum certificates this year.
“There aren’t many people who get certificates,” Krell said. “It takes a pretty concentrated effort.”
Each council member except Olson, who is traveling abroad, is expected to attend next week’s conference.
Because of the League of Cities conference, Everett’s regular council meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday in City Council chambers on Wetmore Avenue in Everett. Meetings are regularly held on Wednesdays.
