Light rail hearing in MLT

The city of Mountlake Terrace is conducting a public hearing before the city’s hearing examiner at 7 p.m. Thursday onpermits for Sound Transit’s light rail expansion through town. Documents presented to the hearing examiner can be found at www.cityofmlt.com/597/Sound-Transit-Light-Rail-Service.

Library’s 125th birthday

Party like it’s 1894! The Everett Woman’s Book Club organized and formed the Everett Public Library 125 years ago this summer and the library has planned a weekend worth of celebrations in mid-July.

On July 13, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., there will be face painters, balloon artists, crafts, and cake at the main library at 2702 Hoyt Ave. Local author Carole Dagg will present a talk, “Daily Life in 1894,” at 2:30 p.m. From 7 to 9 that evening, a trivia contest for people 21 and older is planned at Lazy Boy Brewing, 715 100th St. SE. The brewery will donate $1 from each beer sale that evening to support the early literacy activities and technology at the Evergreen Branch library in south Everett.

On July 14, the library will present “This Victorian Life,” a look at the food, technology and culture from the time when the library was founded.

Mukilteo writing group

Join other writers for discussion, critique, writing exercises and free time from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 23 at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

This class is free and open to teens and adults. The group meets every other Tuesday.

HEADS UP

Lake Stevens park upgrade

Lake Stevens City Council members and others plan to celebrate the start of construction of the North Cove Pavilion and Plaza from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday.

The address is 1812 Main St.

North Cove Park covers 4 acres in Lake Stevens next to City Hall. The park is set to undergo a major renovation that will include demolition of the current City Hall building, improved parking and lake access, a spray park, amphitheater and pavilions for farmers markets and vendors.

Property assessments mailed

The Snohomish County Assessor’s Office was scheduled to mail out yearly property valuation notices Friday.

The new assessments should reflect the market value of each home, condo and commercial property as of the beginning of this year. Those values will be used to calculate each property owner’s share of property taxes due in 2020.
