Create a sandcastle and compete from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 on Jetty Island. Builders of all skills are encouraged to bring their own buckets and shaping tools. Some shovels will be available to borrow.

Dragonfly whisperer

Scientist and author Jim Walker will talk about “The Incredible Lives of Dragonflies and Damselflies” at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Northwest Stream Center, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Learn interesting facts about dragonflies and how to coax them onto your finger.
