Startup center ceremony

The dedication for the Startup Event Center is set for noon Saturday.

The community ceremony marks the culmination of a four-year effort to refurbish an old gym building. The address is 14315 366th Ave. SE, Startup.

Third Thursday Art Walks

The Everett Art Walk and Art Walk Edmonds are both today. The walks, held the third Thursday of the month, are free.

In Edmonds, the walk starts at 5 p.m and in Everett, the walk begins at 6 p.m.

Glass treasures on Jetty Island

Everett’s Fresh Paint will spill over to Jetty Island on Saturday with a float find to search for colorful, handmade glass bulbs on the beach.

Jetty Island is open through Sept. 2 with programs, camps and special events.

Ferries run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays, at 10th Street and W. Marine View Drive, Everett. Parking is $3, with a ferry suggested donation of $2 for adults, $1 for kids.

Piano fun

Everett Street Tunes, with decorated pianos on sidewalks downtown for anyone to play, is through Aug. 27. Make music. Vote online for your favorite piano.

Learn to clog dance

Learn the basic steps in an introduction to clog dancing class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Sept. 4 at the Carl Gipson Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave. in Everett. Appalachian clogging combines folk dancing, tap dancing, line dancing, Irish step and a little flatfooting. Music in the class will include folk, bluegrass, country western, pop and vintage rhythm and blues. You do not need a partner.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring tap shoes or leather-soled dance shoes if you have them. The class is for ages 16 and older.

Search and rescue open house

Join the Snohomish County Volunteer Search & Rescue team for World Helicopter Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, at Taylor’s Landing, 5506 Old Machias Road, Snohomish.

Visitors can meet rescuers and view life-saving equipment such as helicopters, hovercraft and all-terrain vehicles. There will be demonstrations of K-9 searches, rope rescues and drone operations. Children can get a tour of the Kids Copter.

The all-volunteer search team was established in 1967, and responds to those in need across Snohomish County. Hundreds of volunteers log about 9,000 hours each year, responding to more than 120 missions.

Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.
