Algae closes swimming at Lone Lake
High levels of toxic blue-green algae are now present in Lone Lake, just north of Langley on Whidbey Island.
The Island County Public Health Department has posted signs saying the lake is unsafe for people and pets because of the algae, also known as cyanobacteria.
Health officials say that people should not swim or water ski in the lake or drink the water.
The lake was closed in 2007 with similar problems. Health officials will continue to monitor the lake to see when it is safe to resume recreational uses. But it could take several weeks for the lake to be free of the algae.
Eagle show sold out: The eagle show Saturday at Northwest Stream Center was a sell-out. It featured an eagle named Freedom and trainer Jeff Guidry, who runs the Sarvey Wildlife Care Center in Arlington.
We wrote about the pair April 30, “Eagle and Monroe man are a pair of survivors.”
Another eagle show is planned for 11 a.m. Sept. 11 in Everett.
