Merrysville parade
Merrysville for the Holidays is at 5 p.m. Dec. 7 at Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave., Marysville.
It starts with vendors, family activities and live holiday music in the park until 6:30 p.m., when the Electric Lights Parade begins along State Avenue.
This year’s grand marshal is Steve Smith, who has co-owned the Sunnyside Nursery in town for 30 years.
After the parade, there will be a holiday bonfire and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, plus a Christmas tree lighting.
For the first time in years, the water tower will not be decorated with lights. A recent assessment found the 98-year-old tower potentially unsafe for maintenance crews.
HEADS UP
Navy drills
Naval Station Everett is running security exercises from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 5 and 10.
Those nearby might hear blank gunshots and emergency messages on loudspeakers, and notice a larger security presence than usual, including in the harbor.
Gates will close for 10-minute intervals during this time.
These kinds of drills help improve coordination between the Navy and local agencies. They also keep the base prepared in the case of an actual emergency.
