Strawberries in Monroe
The Monroe Historical Society offers the annual Strawberry Social Thursday in Monroe.
It’s planned at Tualco Grange, 18933 Tualco Road.
University Dairy Extension agent Ned Zaugg will talk about the history of dairies and the Washington State Dairy Ambassadors will be on hand.
Free strawberry shortcake will be served at 6:30 p.m. before the presentation.
In 1895, Monroe had nine operating creameries, but most operated for only a few years. Creameries processed raw milk from local farmers into milk, cream, butter and cheese.
A king-sized quilt sewn by the Queen Bee Quilters of the East County Senior Center will be on display and raffle tickets available for purchase.
