Stanwood pool closed
Stanwood’s only pool is now closed due to the failure of its ventilation system.
The pool is used by Team Fitness club members, senior groups, Special Olympics, swim clubs and the swim team from Stanwood High School.
Community meetings about the future of the swimming pool are set for noon and 6 p.m. today at Team Fitness, 7213 267th St. NW, Stanwood.
Give a garden your touch: Interfaith Association of Northwest Washington needs volunteers to tend a garden at the Everett shelter.
They grow vegetables, berries and flowers.
“Though our residents greatly assist, we are in need of one or two people who would commit to planning and coordinating our garden,” said Mary Ellen Wood, executive director.
The job of planning and coordinating is simply too big for the paid staff to take on, she said. Because families leave the shelter as soon as they have adequate housing, it’s not possible to have a shelter resident be responsible. For more information, call 425-252-6672 or go to www.interfaithwa.org.
The way west: Gordon Grant of the Island County Historical Society offers a talk and slide show about American emigration from 1800 to 1900 at 3 p.m. Thursday at Oak Harbor Library, 1000 SE Regatta Drive, Oak Harbor.
He will discuss the personal experiences of emigrants.
The program is supported by the Friends of the Oak Harbor Library.
