Softball challenge: The annual “Guns ‘n Hoses Softball Challenge” between Lake Stevens police and firefighters is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The game starts at 6 p.m. at the Lake Stevens High School baseball field, 2908 113th Ave. NE. Attendees are asked to bring donations of colored markers and pencils for back-to-school supplies for families in needs.
Design Review Board seats: Mill Creek seeks two volunteers to serve on the Design Review Board. The board’s meetings are held at 5:15 p.m. third Thursdays. Members must work in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design (planner) or similar disciplines, but need not live in the city. Submit letters of interest by Aug. 26. Mukilteo benefit: The Historic Everett Theatre Preservation Society has scheduled a benefit for the families affected by the July 30 shootings in Mukilteo. Three young people were killed and a fourth was wounded. The event is scheduled for Aug. 26. Doors open at 6 p.m. The benefit is from 7-10:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $20. There is no charge for anyone under 18 attending the event. Performers will include bands The Sean Keck Project, Medicine Hat, Spike and the Impalers, and comedians Joe Vespaziani and Duane Goad. The Historic Everett Theatre is 2911 Colby Ave.
