Hear old railroad tales
Author, angler and historian Bob Heirman of Snohomish will speak at a meeting of the Darrington Historical Society.
It’s planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mansford Grange, 1265 Railroad Ave. in Darrington.
Heirman will present a slide show of historic railroad photos. His book “A Railroad Runs Through It” is about his career with the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1951 to 1994 and includes a collection of stories from his years on the Darrington branch of the railroad.
Refreshments will be served.
Learn about shellfish harvesting: Members of the Camano Island Beach Watchers plan to share their strategies for successful shellfish harvesting, along with their shellfish recipes.
Bill Griffith, Duane Hoekstra and Tom Perry are scheduled to give their presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive.
Apply for Zonta money: The Zonta Club of Everett is accepting applications from agencies for annual grants.
Zonta International is a worldwide organization whose main goal is to improve the status of women worldwide through education and health. In an effort to achieve that goal the Zonta Club of Everett allocates grants to nonprofit organizations whose programs meet Zonta’s mission.
The deadline for submitting applications is July 1.
