Update on park improvements
Construction is expected to start in May for a long-awaited project to renovate the Meadowdale Playfields along 66th Avenue W. in Lynnwood.
The construction is supposed to wrap up by the end of the year, according to City Council documents. The two soccer fields will get artificial turf, as will three infields in the softball diamonds. There also will be new safety netting, backstops, fencing and accommodations for those with disabilities.
The 27-acre property is owned by the Edmonds School District. It is managed under a contract with the cities of Lynnwood and Edmonds. The total cost of the renovations is an estimated $4.74 million.
Since the closure of the old high school, Meadowdale is the largest public athletic area in Lynnwood.
Aquafest royalty sought: The Miss Aquafest pageant is set for March 11, and there is still time for girls ages 5 to 18 to register. The deadline is Saturday, when a workshop also is planned.
Scholarships of up to $1,000 are available in five age groups.
The contest is tied to the Lake Stevens Aquafest festival (July 28-30) but is the open to girls who live in any part of Snohomish County. More information is at aquafest.org.
