Paper for children; duct tape for teens

School-age children can “Fold a Better World” at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. Kids will construct miniature buildings and other structures using paper-folding techniques.

Then at 3 p.m., tweens and teens are invited to make wallets, flowers and more out of duct tape.

Fireworks, a day early, in Mountlake Terrace

Mountlake Terrace again holds a Third of July fireworks and family fun celebration from 3 to 11 p.m. Monday at Ballinger Park, 23000 Lakeview Drive. There will be pony rides, carnival games, a pie-eating contest, gunny sack races, live music, food trucks and more.

The fireworks show, choreographed to music, will light up the skies over Lake Ballinger.

Monday is a regular work day. So parking sites with shuttle services are offered at the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center (6001 236th St. SW), Creekside Church (7011 226th Place SW), and the Nile Country Club (6601 244th St. SW).

The event is sponsored by the Cheeseburger Babies Foundation, the charitable arm of Red Onion Burgers, with contributions from many local sponsors and partners.

Raccoon to visit Mukilteo Library

The ImaginationBand and Sammy the Traveling Raccoon make a musical stop at 10:30 a.m. July 6 at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Sammy will lead children through magical locales to meet funny puppet friends.

The Community Cat Coalition offers its next “Basic TNR: Trap, Neuter, Return” class July 8 at the Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project, 4001 198th St. SW, Suite 3, Lynnwood. The class is free, but registration is requested.

Get ready for kindergarten

Families are invited to a “Ready for Kindergarten” program, which will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, July 5-26, at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

Children will gain basic knowledge and skills, such as identifying shapes and letters, counting to 100, using scissors and taking turns.

Parents will get instruction on how to guide their child. Group activities will focus on literacy, music and movement.

The end of each class will include a trip through a “lunch line.”

Space is limited, and registration is required.
