Speak up on Everett districting plan

Everett City Council has scheduled a special public hearing 6:30 p.m. July 31 to consider action on a proposal to elect council members from districts. A second reading of the ordinance is set for Wednesday but no action is planned that day.

Sand sculpting contest in Edmonds

Show off your sand sculpting talent, or just watch the annual contest, starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Edmonds Marina Beach, 470 Admiral Way. This free, amateur contest is open to all ages. To participate, sign up at 10 a.m. at the beach and start building. Judging is at noon. Rain or shine.

Stop by the Silvana Fair

The 70th annual Silvana Fair is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 1331 Pioneer Highway. Inside exhibits are in Viking Hall and animal exhibits in the field behind the hall. Inside entries can be entered Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Animal exhibits are entered Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Plans include music, games and 4H demonstrations. Admission and parking are free.

Learn about co-housing

A public panel on “co-housing” is set for July 31. Organizers describe co-housing as when a group of people purposely move to the same area but keep their own living spaces. It can be multi-generational and involve houses, apartments and condos.

The free talk is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Everett Public Library.

Sidewalks finished for Hawthorne

The city of Everett has wrapped up sidewalk improvements around Hawthorne Elementary on Poplar Street. The City Council is expected to review the matter this week and possibly vote in early August to close the project, which involved $440,900 in sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks and other safety measures. Most of the money came from a federal grant.
