Honorary firefighter
Funeral services for Tony Haldane, who tried to save his grandmother from a fire at their Darrington home Jan. 29, are set for 1 p.m. today at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 1272 Highway 530, Darrington. A dinner follows at Mansford Grange, behind the grocery
store.
The fire killed Leotta Pittenger, 87, and later took the life of Haldane, 48, who had been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Services for Pittenger were Thursday.
Fire Chief Dennis Fenstermaker and members of Darrington Fire District 24 plan to escort the Haldane family to and from the funeral in fire trucks. Haldane, a fire district supporter, is to be named an honorary firefighter during the services.
Train Show and Swap Meet: The United NorthWest Model Railroad Club is hosting the 20th annual Train Show and Swap Meet in Monroe.
The show will include 270 vendor tables and 25 layouts, with merchandise and displays of all scales. The event is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Arena 100 on the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe.
