Energy milestone
The Snohomish County Public Utility District says that more than 5 million compact fluorescent light bulbs have been sold in the county since it started a program promoting their sales.
The energy-saving milestone was reached this month. The PUD started promoting the sale of the light bulbs in 2000 and works with 50 retailers to offer discounts on the bulbs.
Each bulb uses a fourth of the energy of a standard incandescent bulb and is expected to last 10 times as long. That equates to a huge environmental benefit for the region, according to the PUD.
Help animals: PAWSwalk 2012, a fundraiser for the Lynnwood-based animal shelter, is set for Sept. 8 at Marymoor Park, 6046 W. Lake Sammamish Parkway NE in Redmond.
Check-in opens at 8 a.m.; the walk begins at 10 a.m.
Each dollar raised at PAWSwalk helps give injured, orphaned and homeless animals a second chance, whether it’s an orphaned songbird who needs a safe place to grow up, or a stray cat looking to find a warm house and a family.
Do-it-yourself: If it’s not stylish then at least it’s unique.
