MEETINGS

Edmonds school levy

The Edmonds School District plans Q-and-A meetings about the proposed replacement levy on the Feb. 13 ballot.

If approved by voters, the local tax would go down in 2019 to $1.50 per thousand of assessed value, from the 2017 rate of $2.35, reflecting the Legislature’s shift in how much the state levies in property taxes for schools.

In Edmonds, the local levy will pay for additional teachers to help keep class sizes smaller, classroom support staff, security staff, textbooks, student transportation, athletics and arts programs, and services for students with special needs.

Meetings to learn more:

– 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mountlake Terrace High School, 21801 44th Ave. W

– 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at Meadowdale High School, 6002 168th St. SW, Lynnwood
