Learn about the white birds of winter
Thousands of trumpeter and tundra swans and snow geese migrate each year from Alaska and Canada to feed in the farm fields of Washington. The Northwest Stream Center offers a program on these “White Birds of Winter,” 7 p.m. Thursday . The center is at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Registration is required; cost is $5 for Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 for others.

DIY denim bags
Youth ages 10-18 are invited to transform ordinary pairs of jeans into one-of-a-kind bags with the help of the Snohomish County Clothing and Textile Advisors, 2-4 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Lake Stevens Library, 1804 Main St. Seating is limited; registration is required.

Painting party for Assistance League
A spring “Canvas and Corks” fundraiser to benefit the Assistance League of Everett Kitty Young Auxiliary is set for noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at 5107 Evergreen Way. Participants will learn how to paint a photo. The $40 ticket price includes supplies and instructions along with a cheese plate and beverage. Reservations are required by Feb. 2.

School spaghetti feed
The Woodside Elementary School PTA plans a Valentine’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser, with seatings at 5 and 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the school. Cost is $9.99 for adults and $6.99 for kids ages 4-11. Seating is limited. Tickets are being sold through Feb. 2 at toucanpta.bpt.me. There will be no sales at the door.

A vintage reading list
At the next Friends of the Edmonds Library meeting, 1 p.m. Thursday, local author Judith Works will discuss a discarded book she found. The book is filled with a woman’s reading list, notes and clippings from 1889 to 1943. “What insights does it bring to her life, and what would your own reading list show about yours?”
The meeting will be held in the upstairs Plaza Room of the library at 650 Main St. Admission is free.

The Edmonds Neighborhood Action Coalition, a grassroots group of progressive activists, holds a “One Year: Looking Back, Looking Forward” forum, 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers St.
