How elections work
Learn how Snohomish County elections work and about current election trends at an event hosted by the Snohomish County League of Women Voters and Sno-Isle Libraries, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W.
Guests leading the conversation will be Garth Fell, Snohomish County elections and recording manager, and Duncan Clauson, Snohomish County elections and voter outreach specialist. The event is free.

Craft times, for adults
Adults are invited to “Create at the Library,” a grown-up craft time, 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Branch of the Everett Public Library, 9512 Evergreen Way. This month’s project is painting rocks. Registration is required.

A community group, called “Create with your Neighbors,” meets at the main Everett Public Library branch, 2702 Hoyt Ave., for similar purposes. From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, the group will assemble and paint wooden bird houses.

Pancake breakfasts
Edmonds: 8:30-9:30 a.m. Feb. 2 (first Friday) at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave. Pancakes, strawberry compote, eggs, ham, biscuits and sausage gravy, beverages. Cost is $5.
Bothell: 8-11 a.m. Feb. 3 and 17 (first and third Saturdays) at the Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E Riverside Drive. Pancakes, eggs, ham (first Saturday) or sausage (third Saturday), coffee or tea, and orange juice. Cost is $5.
Snohomish: 8:30-10:30 a.m. Feb. 3 (first Saturday) at the Snohomish Senior Center, 506 Fourth St. Pancakes, French toast, sausage, ham, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and more. Cost is $5, $3 for kids.
Lake Stevens: A Norwegian Pancake Breakfast is served 7:30-10:30 a.m. Feb. 17 (third Saturday, September to May) at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th Ave. NE. Cost is $6; children under age 4 are free.
Monroe: 8-10:30 a.m. Feb. 17 (third Saturday) at the East County Senior Center, 276 Sky River Parkway. Pancakes, French toast, eggs, ham or sausage, beverages. Cost is $5, $3 under age 12.

Give Kids A Smile
A Marysville dentist office will offer free cleanings, exams and X-rays for uninsured and underserved children, ages 1-12, as part of the ADA Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile program, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Puget Sound Pediatric Dentistry, 919 State Ave., Suite 104.

Free tax time help
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation for low- to moderate-income taxpayers, especially those age 50 and older. The program is offered at local libraries and senior centers.

United Way of Snohomish County offers free tax preparation services to families and individuals who earn less than $66,000. Tax counselors meet one-on-one at 12 locations across Snohomish County.
