Neighbors event in Everett

The city of Everett offers a free workshop Saturday on getting to know your neighbors for the purposes of working together on local issues, and after emergencies. It can be helpful to know one another’s skills, strengths and resources.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Evergreen Middle School. Registration is requested.

Boating classes in Everett

Officers and volunteers from the Everett Police Department’s marine unit will teach a free “Adventures in Boating” class, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 21 at the South Precinct, 1121 SE Everett Mall Way. Completing a state-certified curriculum is required to receive a boater education card. Seating is limited to the first 30 students to sign up.

The Everett Sail and Power Squadron offers a seven-week “America’s Boating Course,” 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays, April 2 to May 21, at the Everett Community College Corporate and Continuing Education Center, 2333 Seaway Blvd. Learn the fundamentals of safe boating. After passing a final test, students qualify for the state boater education card. Cost is $120.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary also offers approved courses. The Everett-South Whidbey Flotilla offers a one-day “About Boating Safely” seminar, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 3 at Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Cost is $25. The seminar also is offered March 3.

Chocolate lovers’ gala supports DVS

The annual Chocolate Lovers’ Gala to benefit Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is set for 5 p.m. March 16 at the Tulalip Resort and Casino. This year’s theme is “This and So Much S’more.”

The event includes a silent auction, chocolate tasting, dinner and live auction. Tickets are $95. Reservations are due by Feb. 23. Special room reservation rates are available until Feb. 9. Sponsors and donations also are welcome.

Annual breakfast aids schools

The Everett Public Schools Foundation plans its annual Benefit Breakfast for March 7 at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center in downtown Everett. Doors will open at 6:45 a.m. The event includes a breakfast buffet. RSVP is requested. Donations will be accepted to support foundation programs.
