Kids: Build a truck with Home Depot
Children ages 5-12 can roll up their sleeves and learn the art of woodworking with Home Depot, 2 p.m. Saturday the Evergreen Branch Library, 9512 Evergreen Way, Everett. They will learn basic woodworking skills and tool safety from Home Depot staff and then build a model truck to take home.
Space is limited to the first 30 children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Snohomish County Department of Human Services holds a Resiliency Conference, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 1 at the Angel of the Winds Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.
The conference aims to equip teachers, social service agencies and others with new skills. The event is free.

Plant trees with Stream Team
The Adopt A Stream Foundation leads a volunteer planting event, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Northpointe Park in Marysville. Meet at the 71st Street entrance. The Stream Team will be planting live stake trees along the stream bank in an effort to help salmon populations in the area.
Bring boots and prepare for rain. Gloves, tools, water and snacks will be provided. No registration is necessary.

Tutors needed at EvCC
Everett Community College’s Volunteer Literacy Program seeks volunteers who can tutor adults learning basic reading, writing and math skills, and students learning English.

Freedom scholarships open to teens
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8870 of Edmonds offers four $1,500 Freedom Scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Students must apply by April 15.
Among the requirements is a 300- to 500-word essay on what freedom means to you and how the U.S. Constitution establishes and maintains a culture of freedom.
