Poetry reading at Hibulb center

Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna plans to read from her work at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Tulalip Tribes’ Hibulb Cultural Center, 6410 23rd Ave. NE, Tulalip. Museum admission is free on the first Thursday of each month. An open mic program follows.

Silvana Fair auction coming March 10

The Silvana Fair Board Auction is set for March 10. Donations of auction items are welcome.

The auction is the main source of funding for the free Silvana Fair held each July. The fair primarily features exhibits and animals shown by 4H and FFA youth. The fundraiser will start at 5:30 p.m. March 10 with a silent auction, followed by the live auction at 6 p.m.

Celebrate a career of firefighting service

Brad Reading, a longtime fire service leader in south Snohomish County, is retiring after 41 years. He has worked in Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood and unincorporated areas. He recently served as interim fire chief for the former District 1.

A reception is planned from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue headquarters south of Everett. Everyone is welcome to come and share stories.

Edmonds Chamber scholarship offered

The Edmonds Chamber Foundation has established an Edmonds Community College Foundation annual scholarship to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a health care, humanities, arts or business degree. The $4,500 scholarship will cover tuition, fees and books for the 2018-19 school year.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, and live within the Edmonds School District or be a graduate of a district high school. The deadline to apply is March 19.

Republican women invited to meetings

The Camano Island Women’s Republican Club invites women to the next meeting, noon Tuesday (and every fourth Tuesday) at Lost Lake Clubhouse, 1469 Lake Drive, Camano Island. Lunch will be served for $5 a person.

The Evergreen club meets 6:30 p.m. third Thursdays at Shawn O’Donnell’s restaurant, 122 128th St. SE, Everett.

The Snohomish County club meets 11 a.m. second Thursdays, also at Shawn O’Donnell’s restaurant.
