Learn about Metro Everett
The city of Everett plans an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. April 25 on the Metro Everett plan, which seeks to rezone much of downtown. Eventually, the plan is supposed to go before the City Council.
“This is the area where the city expects more population and jobs to grow in the next twenty years,” according to an event flier. The location is the Weyerhaeuser Room at Everett Station.

Seabird survey in review
Jennifer Lang of the Seattle Audubon Society discusses some of the more interesting finds from the past 10 years of annual Puget Sound Seabird Surveys, 7 p.m. Friday at the Pilchuck Audubon meeting at Everett Firefighter’s Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave. This year’s citizen survey wrapped up earlier this month.

Everett Massacre film Q-and-A
Local filmmaker Denise Ohio screens her documentary, “Verona: The Story of the Everett Massacre,” 2 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe Library, 1070 Village Way. A Q-and-A session will follow. The event is free.
The film blends interviews, documents, firsthand accounts, and forensic evidence to discuss the event that left seven dead on Nov. 5, 1916.

Teen poetry slam
A Teen Poetry Slam is set for 7 p.m. April 20 at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St., presented with the Marysville Getchell High School Writing for Publication Club. High school teens are welcome to participate no matter what school they attend. Snacks will be served. No sign-up required.
There will be prompts and other activities, as well as a chance to perform.

Hiding in plain sight
Snohomish writer, photographer and designer Warner Blake will demonstrate at Everett Public Library how he rediscovered Snohomish’s J.S. White Building, which had been misidentified for nearly 50 years. The program is at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

Nominate an outstanding youth
Friday is the last day to nominate an outstanding teen for the Youth Challenge Awards, an annual event put on by the Lynnwood Rotary to recognize exceptional youth in Snohomish County.
Nominations are open to individuals or groups in grades 7 through 12 who either live or attend school in Snohomish County. The achievement must be completed or ongoing in the year before March 23. A recognition event is set for May 17 at Lynnwood High School.

Lake Stevens openings
Lake Stevens has openings on the Planning Commission, Veterans Commission and Salary Commission. Applications are available at City Hall, 1812 Main St., or on the city’s website. The deadline to apply is April 20.
