Bike 4 health with Bike2Health

The cities of Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace plan Bike2Health classes and rides this summer, kicking off with a “Fix-a-Flat” class at 10:30 a.m. Saturday . The one-hour class will be held at the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center, 23000 Lakeview Drive.

Other biking events:

June 24: “Back to Basics” adult riding class, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center. This class is for riders who need practice after letting the bike sit for a number of years.

June 30: “Intro to Bike Community” presentation, 2-3 p.m. at Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

July 28: “Maintenance for Everyday Riders,” 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Verdant Community Wellness Center. The demonstration-only class will give the overview of basic bike maintenance.

There also are family bike rides planned for Sept. 12 and Oct. 21 in Lynnwood, Sept. 19 and Oct. 21 in Mountlake Terrace, and Sept. 26 and Oct. 21 in Edmonds. Times vary.

Registration is required for all events.

The Hungry Games seek teens

Arlington Library plans its annual Hungry Games for teens in middle school and high school at noon June 18. Take a “Miracle Berry Madness” challenge by putting “miracle berry tablets” in your mouth, then sampling unusual foods to see how it affects your tongue’s flavor signals.

Supplies are limited, so reservations are required. Participants are asked to bring a donation for the Arlington Food Bank. The library is at 135 N Washington Ave.

Take great photos with your phone

The Mountlake Terrace Library hosts a workshop on how to take high-grade marketing photos with your smartphone, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 13. The library is at 23300 58th Ave. W. Registration is required.

WAYS TO HELP

Library seeks teen volunteers

Teen volunteers are needed for the Mukilteo Library’s Book Buddies program. Volunteer to help children improve their reading skills and earn community service credit. Teens entering grades 8-12 or recent high school graduates are invited to apply. Those accepted must attend training and make at least four of the six sessions.

Orientation is 3 p.m. July 5 or by appointment. Group sessions are 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays from July 12 to Aug. 16.

Help wildlife

PAWS Wildlife Center in Lynnwood seeks volunteer wildlife care assistants. Volunteer jobs include feeding orphaned wild songbirds, finding homes for cats and kittens or helping to make an event successful. Group opportunities available.
