Playground celebration

The Marysville School District cuts the ribbon on a new inclusive playground at 4 p.m. Monday at Kellogg Marsh Elementary School, 6325 91st St. NE. The playground was made possible by a $45,000 donation from Leah’s Dream Foundation, which included contributions from the Tulalip Tribes and the Kellogg Marsh PTA. Kids will enjoy new hardy musical instruments, tic-tac-toe and other play panels.

Beachy book sale

The Friends of the Arlington Library book sale runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. This month’s theme is beaches. The library is at 135 N Washington Ave.

Speaker discusses abuse prevention

Julie Sanger of Citizens Against Domestic & Sexual Abuse in Oak Harbor will discuss domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking at 6:30 p.m. June 14 at the Camano Island Library, 848 N Sunrise Blvd. Learn to recognize the signs of abuse and how to respond. There will be time for Q-and-A.

County seeks advisory group members

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Public Right-of-Way Citizen Advisory Committee for Snohomish County Public Works provides feedback and recommendations to the county on the ADA compliance of pedestrian facilities in the public right-of-way. County leaders seek letters of interest for two open positions on the committee by June 23.

The committee is also helping to complete the county’s ADA transition plan to upgrade existing pedestrian facilities.

Prospective volunteers should submit a letter of interest with name, address and contact information, preferred method of contact or communication, and a brief summary of qualifications or value to committee to Pam McCurdy, Snohomish County Public Works, 3000 Rockefeller Ave. M/S 607, Everett, WA 98201. Nominate a nurse

Nominations are open for the March of Dimes 2018 Washington Nurse of the Year Awards. Exceptional nurses employed in the state of Washington are eligible. There are 15 categories, including advocacy for patients and women’s health. Nominations are due July 31.

Check road conditions before hikes

The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest urges folks heading out for a scenic drive or hike to first check road conditions and closures.

This spring saw an unusually high number of road closures, wash-outs and uncleared or snow-packed sections of road that can limit access to trail heads and campgrounds. Spring is a melting season and can also prompt unexpected conditions.
