Local trail vies for national recognition

The Centennial Trail is one of five former rail lines nominated for induction this year into the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s Hall of Fame.

Snohomish County officials are encouraging the public to vote online to support the bid for the Centennial, which runs 30 miles from Snohomish to the Skagit County line. Voting is open through Friday.

Nominees are selected based on qualities such as scenic value, use and historical significance. Other contenders are: the Cardinal Greenway in Indiana, the Raccoon River Valley Trail in Iowa, the Tunnel Hill State Park Trail in Illinois and the Wood River Trail in Idaho. Rails to Trails magazine intends to announce the winner this summer.
