Highway 92 remains closed for work
The work is not done yet. So the state now anticipates reopening Highway 92 at 2 p.m. Saturday. The road has been closed since July 6, and had been expected to reopen Thursday, for a fish passage project.

Garage sale for senior center planned
The Monroe Community Senior Center hosts a garage sale, vendor fair and breakfast, rain or shine, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 276 Sky River Parkway. Vendor fees support senior center programs. Admission is free for shoppers. Breakfast is $5 and served 8 to 10 a.m.

Garage sale features Japanese flair
The Shakunage-Kai Japanese Women’s Support Group plans a garage sale for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Harbor Senior Center, 51 Jerome St., Oak Harbor. Japanese dishes, baskets, dolls, knickknacks and more. Proceeds benefit the Skagit Valley College ECEAP program, Helping Hands, Keiro Northwest retirement home and others.

Car show helps homeless kids
The annual Classic Car Show is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Edmonds Church of God, 8224 220th S t. SW, Edmonds. The event features more than 30 classic cars and live music. Admission is free. Car show fees support Washington Kids in Transition, which supports local homeless children.

A Community Health and Wellness Fair for ages 50 and older is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church Community Center, 2416 California St., Everett. Health screenings, nutritious food demonstrations, massages, informational booths and workshops, Medicare information and more.

Financial assistance for rural poor
Village Community Services has grant funds from United Way to help low-income families with children meet their basic needs.
Recipients must live or have recently moved from a rural area of Snohomish County, have children newborn to 8, and be at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level. A single parent who makes $38,443 per year, or about $18.48 per hour, and has two children age 8 or younger would qualify. Applicants must demonstrate motivation for education or a career path.
