Edmonds Lutheran Church and Refugees Northwest hold a community forum on “How can I help refugees and asylees in my neighborhood?” at 6:30 p.m. July 26 at the church, at 23525 84th Ave. W, Edmonds. Refugees Northwest is a service of Lutheran Community Services.

Meet police dogs, more
The Edmonds Police Department and Edmonds Police Foundation hold an open house 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Edmonds Police Station, 250 Fifth Ave. N. Meet the newest K-9 officer, Ace, and his colleague, Hobbs. There’s also a kids coloring contest, emergency vehicles to check out, educational displays, guided tours and raffles.

Fiddle along with old-timey music
Enjoy an evening of old-time music with fiddle, guitar, banjo and more with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers, 5 p.m. Friday, and every second and fourth Friday, at the Sisco Heights Community Club, 13527 99th Ave. NE, Arlington. There’s a Celtic jam at 5 p.m., workshop at 6 and circle jam at 7. Musicians are welcome, or just come and enjoy the music.

Nubian Jam coming up
The Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee and NAACP of Snohomish County invite the public to the annual Nubian Jam community festival, set for 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Forest Park, 802 Mukilteo Blvd., Everett. The celebration of black culture includes live music, vendors, an art contest, raffle and more. Registration is required for the youth area. Admission is free.

Girls’ self-defense workshops
Teen girls can learn the basics of self-defense at free two-hour beginner classes, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Mariner Library in south Everett or 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Monroe Library. Aimed at ages 11 to 18. Space is limited and registration is required.

The Alzheimer’s Association keeps a list of local support groups. Groups for caregivers are available in Arlington, Bothell, Edmonds, Everett, Lynnwood and Snohomish.
