Tyr! Vikings to battle in Arlington

Vikings will wage battle (and weave and tell stories and sell pretty things) at the Northwest Viking Fest, which runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Twin Rivers Park, 8003 Highway 530, Arlington.

The festival features historical demonstrations and Norse culture. Try your hand at ax and spear throwing, archery, and (foam) sword fighting. There’s a raffle, kids long boat-building contest and more.

Tickets are free.

Stock up on good reads for gray days

The Sultan Friends of the Library Autumn Book Sale is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday . Find all genres and topics for all ages. Bag sale starts at 2 p.m. (fill a grocery bag for $5). The sale will be held in the community room of the City Hall and library building, at the corner of Fourth and Main streets, just north of U.S. 2.

Free clothes in Everett

Everybody’s Closet will open again from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave. The event offers free clothing to all who come and fill a shopping bag. Coffee and cookies, too. Members of the senior center host this event “in appreciation for all Everett does for its seniors.”

Buttons galore at show-and-sell

The Washington State Button Society’s annual Wonders of the World show-and-sell is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1515 N 160th St., Shoreline. Admission is free. There are local meetings of this group aimed at those interested in antique, quilting, sewing, crafting and art buttons.

Lodge welcomes reality TV winner

Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge 26 meets at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Normanna Hall (2725 Oakes Ave., Everett). Learn more about the lodge, and hear from Doug Miner, of Seattle, who spent a year in Norway for a reality TV show that introduced Norwegian Americans to their heritage. (Miner won the show’s inaugural season, in 2010.)

The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County’s Saturday Unit now meets 10 a.m. to noon third Saturdays at Mukilteo City Hall, 11930 Cyrus Way.
