Ferry celebration
The state’s newest ferry, the 144-car Suquamish, will join the Mukilteo-Clinton route in the summers starting in 2019. The public is invited to celebrate the ferry’s completion at a free open house, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility, 497 Harborview Drive SE, Bainbridge Island (about a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal). There will be tours, live music, refreshments and activities for kids.

Party in the park
The last Party in the Park of the year is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek’s Cougar Park, 3221 148th St. SE. There will be activities and games. The Lions Club will offer food for purchase. City staff and personnel from Mill Creek Police Department and Snohomish County Fire District 7 will be on hand.

Learn about local whales
Learn more about the “Whales of Puget Sound” with Orca Network’s Cindy Hansen at a free program, 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Island County Multipurpose Center, 141 N East Camano Drive. The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project sponsors the event.

School dedications coming up
The Edmonds School District holds two school dedications this week:
– 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mountlake Terrace Elementary School, 22001 52nd Ave. W
– 6 p.m. Thursday at Lynnwood Elementary School, 18614 44th Ave. W
There will be tours, dedications and ribbon-cutting ceremonies, student performances — and maybe even cake.

Step back in time to Pioneer Days
An annual Pioneer Days event is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum, 20722 67th Ave. NE, Arlington. Milk a cow, wash clothes, sew, play with toys, make shingles, churn butter, grind wheat and more like they did in the old days.

Childhood stress a topic at Zonta
The Zonta Club of Everett hosts guest speaker Sadie Nelson, of the Snohomish Health District, at the club’s next meeting, 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Citrine Health, 2940 W Marine View Drive, Everett. Reservations for the luncheon event are due Monday to judith_strand39@msn.com.
Nelson will discuss how childhood toxic stress — an outcome of ongoing abuse or other hardships — can lead to poor adult health outcomes. Homelessness and the opioid crisis also will be topics.
