Learn about owning riverfront property

An upcoming forum aims to provide useful information to landowners along some of the area’s major river systems. The annual Skykomish-Snohomish River Forum is planned from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe. The event should provide a chance to meet representatives from law enforcement and land-management agencies. A special presentation also is planned by a company designing signs for river access sites. RSVP requested.

Music in Motion

The Kamiak Performing Arts Boosters hosts a Music in Motion regional marching band competition on Saturday at Goddard Stadium, next to Mariner High School, 200 120th St. SW, Everett. The program starts at 1:15 p.m. Participating bands are Kamiak, Ferndale, Cedarcrest, Skyview, Sunset, Stanwood and Cascade. Admission is $15, $10 youth and seniors, $40 for a family of four, and free ages 5 and under.

Oktoberfeast for seniors

Local residents age 50 and older can check out free food samples and get information from vendors at Oktoberfeast, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Carl Gipson Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett. Vendor fees support an annual USO dance.

Diversity served up at World Café talks

The Edmonds Diversity Commission will host its annual World Café, with discussions on topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion, from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 in the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St. Space is limited. Reservations are due by Oct. 10. Topics will include the Me Too movement, business practices based on religious convictions, age-based discrimination, and whether people of diverse backgrounds feel safe and welcome in Edmonds.

Learn how to help during a disaster in free Community Emergency Response Team classes offered by South County Fire this fall. Classes will meet 6 to 10 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, Oct. 22 to Nov. 15, at South County Fire headquarters, 12425 Meridian Ave. S, Everett. Topics include readiness, basic disaster first aid, search and rescue operations, how to put out small fires and the psychological effect of disasters.
