Driving safety class in Arlington
An AARP Smart Driver defensive driving class is offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Tuesday and Wednesday of every other month at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington. Cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Sign-up required.

Forest Service Christmas tree time
Permits are available to cut Christmas trees in area national forests. Maps and permits are sold at ranger stations, as well as REI at Alderwood mall, and several locations along U.S. 2. Permits are $10 for a tree up to 12 feet, or $20 for a taller tree. The number of permits is limited. Some areas also will require a Northwest Forest Pass and possible parking fees. High-clearance vehicles are advised.

Willow Place
Activities for adults with developmental disabilities are offered from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Quilceda Community Services, 9610 48th Drive NE, Marysville. Exercise, crafts, games and music. Cost is $15. First visit is free. Scholarships available. More info: 360-653-2324.
Help injured wildlife
PAWS Wildlife Center in Lynnwood is seeking volunteers. Help with wildlife care, maintaining the nature trail, or hand-feed baby songbirds next spring, among other tasks. An application, orientation and time commitments are required. Get started at paws.org/volunteer.

Learn about policework
The Lynnwood Police Department has a citizens academy set for Jan. 10. The program lasts 14 weeks and teaches people about common police procedures, activities and investigations. The free class is held Thursday nights at the Lynnwood Senior Center and includes field trips, ridealongs and tours. More than 30 officers participate as instructors. Space is limited.

Give to children
The Granite Falls Firefighter’s Association plans an annual Christmas House event Dec. 8. The event relies on fundraising and donations. To participate in giving, visit the Granite Falls KeyBank, Hairway 92, IRG Granite Falls Physical Therapy, Granite Falls Co-Op Supply, Hanky Pies, Rite Aid and Hook Line Espresso. At those locations, you can purchase “giving tags” that are specific to age and gender.
