Homeless memorial vigil planned
Snohomish County’s National Homeless Memorial Day Vigil, with a tribute to veterans, is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Friday at the Snohomish County Campus, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
The program, held on the longest night of the year, honors those who died on Snohomish County streets in 2018.

Forest fiddler coming to Lake Stevens
Idea Hatch will bring “Fiddler in the Forest” to the Lake Stevens Library at 11 a.m. Dec. 29. Featuring live music, the show follows the antics of forest animals around a dreaming fiddler in a magical forest.
The program is for ages kindergarten through second grade. Advance registration is required.
After the 15- to 20-minute show is an opportunity for kids to make their own shadow puppets and participate in a simple show.

Movie break in Monroe
School’s out. What to do? The Monroe Library will show “Incredibles 2” (rated PG), and a raffle for a chance to win a DVD copy of the movie, starting at 1 p.m. Dec. 28. All ages. The library is at 1070 Village Way.

Science show that’s super cool
Discover what happens when things get super cool with liquid nitrogen at a “Super Cool Science Show” with the Pacific Science Center, 1 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Darrington Library, 1005 Cascade St. Watch as gases become liquids, liquids become solids and matter fizzes, freezes and flies.

Puppet show in Mill Creek
Clay Martin’s Puppet Theater will present a puppet variety show with Charlie the singing moose, The Magic Man, The Frog Prince and the classic “Punch & Judy,” 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Mill Creek Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway. At the end, you’ll get to see the inner workings of a puppet theater.

WAYS TO HELP
Assist cancer patients
The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support. Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles.

Donate eyeglasses, hearing aids
Lions Clubs collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids. Donations may be made at Everett Public Library branches, the PUD main office and at most opticians and eye doctors.
