Fan Frenzy Bingo in Monroe
The Monroe Community Senior Center plans “Fan Frenzy Bingo” from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 26. Cost is $25 per person and includes a nacho bar dinner, dessert and bingo. Represent your favorite sports team to win prizes. Alcohol available for purchase.

Attend a book reading
Local writer and poet Richard Porter plans a public reading from “Smokestackers!”, his new zine-style book of Everett history. The free event is set for 2 to 3:30 p.m. Jan 12 at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. Copies of the book will be available for $10.
Porter was featured in Julie Muhlstein’s column in October in The Daily Herald.

Snohomish parks board seat
Snohomish is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Park and Recreation Board. Applications are due to the city clerk by 4 p.m. Jan. 4 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.
Preference includes expertise in one or more of the fields of parks, sports, recreation programs or environmental preservation. Members must live within the city’s urban growth area. This is a volunteer position.

MEETINGS
The city of Lynnwood’s Human Services Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the City Council chambers. The commission focuses on meeting the needs of people described as low-income, homeless, seniors, veterans, crime victims and others who are underserved. HEADS UPS
Everett Transit fares increase in 2019
Starting Jan. 1, adult fares and paratransit rides will rise to $1.50. Fares for youth, seniors and people with disabilities will increase to $0.50.
Costs for adult and paratransit riders are set to rise again in July.
Several routes are being reconfigured next year, including the elimination of Route 17. Those changes are coming in March.

Get a flu shot
It’s not too late to get a flu shot, according to the Snohomish Health District.
Flu-related hospitalizations continue to be reported here. Symptoms include body aches, cough, fatigue, fever, headache, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, vomiting and diarrhea.
