Mill Creek offers police academy

The Mill Creek Police Department plans to host its third annual Police Citizens Academy starting March 28.

The 10-week program is designed to help people from Mill Creek and surrounding communities learn more about policing and how to assist law enforcement.

Each week will focus on a different topic, such as SWAT, K9, patrol procedures and criminal investigations. Officers will share insights into their work.

Classes will be held Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the City Hall North, 15720 Main St.

The program is free. Applicants must be at least 18 and must pass a basic background check.

Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Become a habitat steward

Friends of Camano Island Parks’ Camano Wildlife Habitat Project train volunteers to help the community create and preserve wildlife habitat.

A habitat steward is someone interested in wildlife, ecology, gardening and habitat conservation.

Training sessions will be held at the Island County Multi-Purpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 20, March 20, April 17, May 15 and June 19. The sessions include Saturday field trips from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 23, March 23, April 20 and May 18.

Save the date for school fundraisers

The Foundation for Edmonds School District annual benefit is planned for March 15 and this year includes a breakfast or lunch option.

Breakfast will be at 7 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m., both at Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. Suggested donation is $150.

The Everett Public Schools Foundation annual benefit breakfast is 7 a.m. March 6 at the Edward D Hansen Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Registration is under way. Business sponsors also are needed. The foundation supports school activities and dates back to 1985. It is governed by a board of directors.

MEETINGS

Mill Creek: The developer for a proposed project called The Farm at Mill Creek has planned an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mill Creek Senior Center, 4111 133rd St. SE.

The project with 356 apartment units, commercial space and other uses would be located west of The Vintage at Mill Creek, at 3830 and 4008 132nd St. SE. The open house will come the day after the City Council is scheduled to receive a presentation about the project during its 6 p.m. meeting. No action is planned at the council meeting.
