Student pianists to perform

Five prize-winning student pianists, accompanied by the Mukilteo Community Orchestra, will perform in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo. Hear music by Haydn, Bach, Mozart and Shostakovich. The concert is free. Trevor Lutzenhiser, MCO conductor and artistic director, will present a pre-concert lecture at 1:20 p.m.

Book sale

The Friends of the Arlington Library plan a two-day book, bake and jewelry sale at 135 N. Washington St.

The hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

“Great buys on beautiful gently used jewelry, homemade baked goodies, and of course, books. Our door prize this month is a garden basket.” All proceeds support library programs and outreach.

The group meets the second Wednesday of most months.

Landscape with native plants workshop

Friends of Camano Island Parks is hosting a workshop on using native plants to increase the resilience of your landscape to climate change.

Brenda Cunningham, who manages the Washington Native Plant Society’s display garden in Mount Vernon, will present on lesser-known native plants that can be great garden additions.

The workshop will be held March 20 at the Island County Multi-Purpose Center, 141 N East Camano Dr. at 7 p.m.

Grant writing workshop

In this two-part series provided by Sno-Isle Libraries, Seattle-area nonprofit consultant Debra Jensen teaches how to write powerful grant proposals.

The first workshop, “Crafting Proposals That Pack a Punch,” will be held March 14 at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St. at 2 p.m.

The second, “From Budgets to Attachments, Character Counts, and Balancing Stats with Stories,” will be held March 28 at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St. at 2 p.m.

Spring brunch

Seafood and egg casseroles, country potatoes, biscuits and gravy, fruit, sweet breads and more will be served at the Utsalady Ladies Aid Spring Brunch on March 31 at the historic Ladies Aid building, 78 Utsalady Road, Camano Island. Brunch will be served from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 3-8, and free for children under the age of 3.

MEETINGS

The Board of Directors of the Monroe School District will meet to receive public input at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Fryelands Elementary School. The topic is families’ experiences with transfer buses. The regular board meeting will follow at 6 p.m.

The Ebey’s Landing Historic Preservation Commission meets at 10 a.m. March 28 at the Island County Commissioners’ Hearing Room in Coupeville.
